Although there is a wide range of items we do accept, there are some pieces we are not interested in buying. Except for certified, special-issue, complete collections, or key date coins, we do not purchase the following coins and currency:
- > Lincoln pennies
- > Wheat pennies
- > Jefferson nickels
- > Buffalo nickels
- > State quarters
- > Eisenhower, Susan B. Anthony, Presidential, and Sacagawea dollars
- > Foreign paper currency
- > Foreign coins that are not comprised of precious metals

Handling Your Collection
Hold your coins by their edges between your thumb and forefinger over a clean soft towel or surface. Wear clean soft cotton gloves to protect the coin’s surface from fingerprints and other natural oils on your skin, which can be corrosive and damage your coins. Avoid talking directly over coins; tiny droplets of saliva can also create spots on a coin. Just like fingerprints, these marks are difficult to remove.
While you may be tempted to polish your coins to make them look shiny and new, proceed with caution. Polishing and/or cleaning coins will almost always reduce their value and is irreversible. Older coins that show deep age coloration is more desirable than coins whose surfaces have been stripped away by improper polishing or cleaning.

Storing Your Collection
Keep coins cool and dry
Use original holders (if possible)
Other storage options include:
- > 2”x2” cardboard or plastic holders
- > Plastic tubes or capsules
- > Sleeves or envelopes
- > Albums
When storing in sleeves/holders, avoid using staples. The metal from the staples over time may discolor the coin. Always use acid-free cardboard and plastic holders free from polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Acid and PVC can ruin a coin’s surface. PVC eventually coats a coin with sticky green slime.
For high-value coins, use hard plastic holders. Professional coin grading services use sealed holders called slabs to protect authenticated and graded coins.
Coin Grading
When coming across a particularly rare/valuable coin, having a coin graded is the best way in solidifying the true value/rarity of the coin. PCGS and NGC are two of the most widely recognizable coin grading companies in the world. Grading with one of those companies guarantees ascertaining a coin’s true value, comparing the coin’s condition to others of similar grade. And stores them properly to keep them in that grade for generations.
